Thankful for the Small Things

This is just a quick post about being thankful for small things. I was making my son pancakes (thankful I’m home to do that now, but that’s not what this post is about) and I saw my dog, Lily, looking out the window in the living room. She LOVES sitting by the windows when I have them open. Not only can she look outside, but she also enjoys smelling the fresh air.

I got to thinking about how thankful I am for where I live…coastal North Carolina.  I can open my windows for warm fresh air to air out the house in the month of February! This is remarkable to me still after living here for 12 years. You see, I grew up in Iowa. Brrrrr… In fact, this is the current situation of that state. (Sadly 8 people have died in this 72 car pileup from Monday.)

You could never open your windows for warm fresh air until at least May in Iowa when I was a kid.

So yes, I am absolutely thrilled that the weather is warm and my windows are open. Oh, I could harp on the fact that it’s crazy windy outside, or that it’s cloudy…but that leads to negative thoughts and will cause a result of a bad attitude or feeling sad/depressed. I guess what I’m getting at is that no matter the situation you are in, examine your life carefully. Think of all the little things you can be thankful for.  THAT will help set your mind to achieve good things. The negative stuff will just bring you down and paralyze you from moving forward.

Comment below what things you are thankful for so we can celebrate together!

P.S. That cover photo…is now my background on my laptop. Always a great reminder!

I am thankful for a wonderful wife and son, and the fact that I have a job to go to everyday.
